Journalist. Writer. Editor.
Hi. I'm Sal Rodriguez. I'm a California-based journalist with nearly a decade of writing and editing experience.
From criminal justice reform to education policy to California politics, I have written about a wide range of topics under a variety of capacities.
I am currently the opinion editor for the 11 newspapers of the Southern California News Group, which includes the Orange County Register, Riverside Press-Enterprise, San Bernardino Sun and Los Angeles Daily News.
From 2014 to 2016, I wrote editorials under Freedom Communications. I also wrote a weekly column on local government issues in the Inland Empire, where I advocated for police body cameras in Riverside County, wrote about San Bernardino's bankruptcy, and wrote about opportunities for the region to pursue harm reduction policies.
Prior to entering the newspaper business, I received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Reed College, and worked with Solitary Watch, investigating the use and abuse of solitary confinement, and wrote about pensions and occupational licensing for the libertarian Reason Foundation.
